Beautiful Barbados
April 25th- May 2nd, 2020
Away from the hubbub of the resort areas, the South Coast of Barbados is known for its beautiful beaches, local flavor, and island tranquility. Not to mention the great surf for both surfers and kite surfers alike! This sun-kissed oasis is a small, family-run venue, with a smattering of bungalows perched on the water, a cafe, and a surf school. Yoga will be offered in two locations - a beautiful white 2nd story deck overlooking the ocean, and a large wooden yoga palapa perched right at the ocean’s edge.
From the airport (which has non-stop flights from NYC and many other cities) it's a quick 15 minute drive to our venue for the week- Surfer’s Point Guesthouse. Located on a private beach surrounded by tropical gardens in the local neighborhood of Inch Marlow, this gem is run by the uber-friendly Zed + Claudia Layson. Zed is a 5th generation Barbadian, and a local legend. The surf school he runs has been rated one of the Top 10 Surf Schools in the World by both National Geographic and The Guardian, and he also runs the boat we will charter for a group snorkeling and site-seeing expedition.
Zed, who is legendary among Caribbean surfers, is one of the island’s wave kings. There’s a friendly, authentic vibe and the location is lovely: you’ll share the water with sea turtles and see dreamy sunsets. The Guardian, June 2018
We'll start each day with yoga and meditation, and offer a late afternoon session for deep relaxation as well. I am excited that Megan Young is on board again this year as a guest teacher. She'll be bringing her restorative yoga and incredibly healing sound bath experience to many of the afternoon sessions. If you're not already familiar with Megan, you're in for a treat!
Outside of yoga there is much to see and do, and our location allows for many short day trips throughout the week for those so inclined. Each day you are free to choose to relax by the sea, swim, surf, or head out for an adventure. Some of the activities available include:
-Group Boat ride to snorkel a shipwreck and swim with turtles
-Exploring the areas various beaches, local restaurants, and “rum shacks”
-Surf lessons for all levels at our venue
-Paddle board and kayak rentals and kite surfing lessons offered nearby
-Scuba diving the numerous shipwrecks around the island, offered nearby
-Explore popular nearby areas like Oiston’s market, St. Lawrence Gap and Bridgetown

I'm so looking forward to another week of my very favorite things-diving deep into the yoga and meditation practice, exploring new places, and plenty of time for fun in the sun. Add to that great food, and the camaraderie and community that develops with each one of these trips- and I can't think of anything better. I hope you can make it!
