I have been teaching private clients for over 12 years, and in that time have cultivated a wide range of students to fill my schedule, and an even wider tool box to meet the individual needs of each person I work with. Working privately requires integrating every bit of training you have under your belt to fit the exact needs of whoever you are working with, and a hefty dose of interpersonal skills to put that person at ease and lay the foundation for a relationship that deepens as time goes on. After teaching for a few years in 200 and 300-hr teacher trainings and mentoring other teachers, I began to appreciate what a challenge it is to work privately at this level, and to inspire a consistency in your students that allows your practice to grow, so that you can make a living doing what you love. From there, I began to develop this training, teaching it in a variety of formats and lengths before finally settling on this expanded format, so that teachers truly have the time to focus on and hone all the myriad skills that go into having a private yoga clientele.

The Art and Science of Working with Private Clients Specialty Training

Private sessions are the ultimate way to tailor yoga to the individual. They can be rewarding on many levels for both teacher and student, and are a great way to sustain a living as a yoga teacher. But there are SO many factors to juggle with private clients, like finding your first few clients, smart business practices, or keeping your students consistent. While a vigorous teacher training will prepare us to lead group classes, due to time constraints there is a large learning curve that teachers must navigate themselves as they grow their privates practice. This comprehensive training is meant to fill that gap, so that teachers can move forward with confidence, and inspire meaningful change by creating sessions that meet the deepest needs of their students on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level.

In this 30-hr training, we will deep dive into all the elements of working one-on-one, so you leave with a new mindset and a plethora of helpful tools to inspire your private practice and keep your students coming back for more. We will spend time discussing the following aspects of teaching privates:

  • How to grow your private practice

  • Maintaining a clientele: optimizing the client service experience

  • The business side of yoga privates: pricing your privates and beyond

  • The importance of creating boundaries and how to do it skillfully

  • Common archetypes of private yoga students

  • Teaching to the individual from a physical and energetic perspective

  • Sequencing for private sessions

  • What a first session should look like

  • Diagnostics: deciding what belongs in each client's hour long session

  • The role of yoga philosophy

  • Hands-on techniques

  • And more!

There will be time devoted to example case studies, including students with various limitations and injuries. You will have the chance to watch many snippets of a private lesson in action, as well as practice hours of hands-on and assisted stretches specifically useful in a private setting. Time will be set aside for integrating all of what we learn together with practice teaching, so that you come away with actionable techniques to take your one-on-one sessions to  whole new level!

This is a Yoga Alliance recognized 30-hour training. 28 hours are completed as a group. 2 hours of giving/receiving a private session on your own time are required in order to complete the 30-hr training and receive your certificate. A manual for this specialty training is included.
